Baxter maternity jeans, £40 by TopShop
Moving onto maternity jeans...mmm. A touchy subject. I purchased the TopShop Baxters with the elastic waistband across the front replacing buttons and a zip. I am disappointed. Very. In the changing room, they looked fab - fitted nicely and really comfy. But after about an hours wear, they feel like they are sagging half way between my bum and knees. I am constantly, and I mean constantly, having to pull them up. "Maybe I should have bought the smaller size," I mentioned to Mr Scruff. "No don't worry you'll grow into them," was his reply. In future I have asked Mr Scruff to keep his style opinions to himself.
I'd love to hear which are the best maternity jeans. I'm stuck with these now, but my fashion curiosity is intrigued to hear which are the high street hits.
Wellies! Little Miss P walked to the end of the garden and back, which resulted in me spending all afternoon washing her coat, Startrite shoes and trousers. Action has been taken. Wellies have been purchased.
Little Miss P is only a size 3, but all the shops I visited start at size 4, except in Shoe Zone. Where? I am not sure if it is a chain but every local high street has an equivilant. You know, rows of shoes hanging on hooks - the knitted ugg boot style and granny slippers. And kids wellies! I got these pink ones in a size 3 for £6.99. They also came in red and blue!
(top tip: We also got her a old navy parka in a charity shop for a matter on pence. Perfect for getting grubby in the garden and park!)
Marks and Spencer are selling a brilliant Hunter style pair for £8. They are the most delicious fire enguine red with the obligitory buckle and hunter style heel for sloshy mud. I like. A lot. Boots Mini Mode also have a nice pair - not too cartoony, which are also £8. For the really style conscious toddler a pair of Hunters are a must. These are the sort of thing I'll never by my own child (bit pricey) but would make a brilliant gift for a fashion savvy mum chum.
Marks & Spencer £8
Mini mode at Boots, £8
Hunter Kids, from £23 at ASOSMy parents have just returned from a weekend in Hungary (where my dad is from). Look what they brought back for Little Miss P! This is adorable. It's hand embroidered and yes will make her look like a national costume doll, but heck if you can't dress them like this when they are this small, when can you? Poor child!

Well, what can I say? I like the wellies...
What? No advice on the best maternity jeans!!!!!
Still waiting for P's feet to get big enough for the Kickers you reviewed!
Hello love the national costume - you have to do it when they are small. My curly haired beauty has a whole range of Chinese silk outfits, handed down from an older cousin. Maternity jeans - believe me I bought them all - the best were by Question Air an under the bump type jeans with a thick elastic which was really supportive when I was carrying a solo baby - small neat bump. For twins it was strangely enough from Dorothy Perkins an over the bump type jeans that I grew into very quickly. But as I found out, one jeans does not suit all the different stages of pregnancy. Don't bother with Isabella Oliver - they sag at the knees (which you don't want). Since you will be very preggers for the summer stick with jeggins you will always feel hot anyway and floaty summer frocks are great to keep cool in.
Best matenity jeans I bought were from Next. They were boyfriend cut ones. So quite loose fit already. I liked the fact that they had button and zip and an elasticated band on each hip.
Hi teawithonesugar: Ah, you are quite the pro...I think I will try Dotty P's as I bet they are cheap so I could squeeze another pair out of my budget!
Hi Foodiemummy:I am not so keen on the side elastic...I guess i like the feeling of the bump being enclosed in all that elastic!
I am living in my H&M maternity jeans. They have the big belly band that comes right up over your bump, so they tend to fall down less (on me, at least). I tried a pair of Mothercare jeans with a narrow under-the-bump elastic band, but I just have not been able to get along with them since about week 22.
Loving the Hungarian national costume. My husband's family are also Hungarian, so if this little one turns out to be a girl, I think I'll be placing an order with them next time they go.
Don't get the early term jeans from mothercare. I did and then realised I couldn't wear them after about 20 weeks because they dug into my bump. Am currently sporting a skinny pair from dotty p's that I got 2 years ago when pregnant with my daughter. Leggings are totally the way forward though :)
I had a favourite pair of maternity jeans through all three pregnancies. In this pair, from the back, you couldn't even tell I was pregnant. Amazing. How far along are you now?
Maternity jeans always fall down ...nightmare. Skirts and dresses were always more comfy for me. Love your Blog!
Hi kat: I tried on H&M and if I am honest, I couldn't get them over my legs...eek! Maybe I need to try a baggier fit...mmmm. Yes you must get a little something hungarian...I mean worn as separates this top and skirt are brilliant!
Hi Tiddlyompompom: Love the name of your blog btw! You are second person now to say no to Mothercare...definately to be avoided...My gap ones dig into my bump too...but they were £5 in the sale, so they are now in the bin!
Hi A modern Mother: Sounds like you found the holy grail of maternity denim! I'm 21 weeks and counting!
Hi Frog in the field: Yes am I didn't buy one item of maternity wear first time around...lived in floaty tent dresses from H&M...am thinking its leggings and smocks all the way
I've found different trouser styles fit better or worse depending on how far along you are. Of course that doesn't help any of us when you want something that'll last the whole nine months. I got mine from mothercare and they were quite good.
I have come to really like my leggings (I can't believe I actually go out in public wearing them - but they are always teamed with something long!) but can't get my head round jeggings. I think it's because they are called "jeggings"! If they were just blue leggings I could cope. And it sounds too much like Jedward - LOL!
Anyway........... I lived in two pairs of maternity jeans. The first where from New Look and very reasonably priced and had the stretchy sides and were really comfy for the first few months. The last few months however I was in my over the bump waisted jeans. Sooooo comfy as there is nothinh to dig in anywhere!
Hi photopuddle: You are exactly the same as me when it comes to jeggings...its the actual word, it just sounds so teeny...
Hi Glowstars...Yes I though Mothercare would be a good bet. I imagine they do great comfy denim - softer than a trendy pair from TopShop...mmmm. Will check it out!
OMG! I still have almost the exact top (I think it is the exact top) from Hungary for my little 3 year old. BUT it was mine from when i was that age (I am now 40). (My grandparents and father were originally from Hungary)
Wow-Thanks for that unexpected wave of nostalgia!
Hi Susie: Thats amazing! I had an outfit too when I was younger but unfortunately don't have it anymore. My parents also bought back some gorgeous hand painted plates too...I love all the floral work from Hungary!
I've got Polish family so I was dressed in some similar outfits as a kid! I love those wellies, I've been eyeing up pairs for K athough she's not even crawling yet!
Hi KMake do mum: ha ha - you are keen., They are adorably cute though!
I have 2 pairs of jeans - well, one 'Jeggings' from ASOS (which just look like jeans anyway!) and I also have a pair of the Baxters. My Baxters have the stretch in the pockets however, and so far so good.
In an ideal world I would be wearing tracksuit bottoms every day, but I don't think they're work appropriate!
Hi Alice: I hear you sister....bring on the trackie B's!
I'm still reeling in the fact topshop do maternity clothes! Now that's worth getting pregnant again for!! ;)
Hi Emma: Yes some nice nautical stuff in there but not a touch on the main collection...they sort of pick out the frumpy bits to adapt to bumps!
